Happy Summer!!! Do you hear all those exclamation marks? I love July. It means my birthday is around the corner (the 24th) and summer is in full swing. I love a warm day with a cool light breeze and the slow paced feeling that accompanies it.
Our company is busy this time of year too, as stores scramble to fill in for the higher traffic and sales, and our own team is out and about at various outdoor shows. (See full schedule here).
So tonight is the full moon for this month. This moon gives me pause, as always. I am one to feel the moon on a visceral level…that instinctive, internal feeling that I should stop and take it all in, that things are shifting and making room for new or perhaps, change.
Some are calling it a “Blessing Moon.” For me it is a time take in a slower pace, to sift through what is working and what isn’t, on a daily level as I go about my work and play. What do I want to learn more about, say in my yoga practice? It is a great time, in the full moon, to start to zero in and clearly define where I am going and what I have learned along the way to support and sustain me.
This is a phrase I use a lot while teaching yoga: Support and Sustain. It is good to remember, especially while staying in a pose, to work with your breath so that it slows down, remains even and steady, rather than shallow, erratic, and hard to maintain.
Once we establish a yoga practice where we know our bodies and can remain in a pose and breathe fully and deeply, we then can shift, start to move deeper in perhaps on an energetic, spiritual level. We can choose to go beyond familiar ground, out of our “comfort zones,” past our Edge, to find the blessing beyond the comfort zone. What can await us doesn’t have to be scary but welcoming, beckoning, and surprising.
In relation to the full moon July 9, I want to discuss the ethereal beauty of the gemstone know as Rainbow Moonstone. It is one of my all time favorite stones and is for many I meet. High quality rainbow moonstone has a beautiful sheen, caused by light diffraction. While there are other shades (peach, white, grey), I prefer this one which is generally associated with the feminine as it can help one to tap into the intuitive part of the mind. It is a talisman to enter inward and decipher how to navigate new stages of growth. How perfect for a period near and on a full moon, to then nurture yourself with ease and patience, rather than hurrying for the next stage of life.
This summer, around a full moon, and really, anytime you want to slow down and take "it" all in mindfully, find a beach or body of water outside in the warmth, and slow down physically. Sit. Look around at the beauty around you. Then maybe meditate to look within to what works and doesn’t work in your life to aid you in becoming your better Self. Treat yourself with gentle, loving energy. Empower and align yourself with the Goddess within.

You have heard that you have a birthstone, a gemstone associated with the month of your birth.
But what does that mean and is it important?
Certain crystals and quartz are used are transducers of electromagnetic energies (think crystal radio receivers and quartz crystals in watches). With this in mind, it is not too much to consider that gemstones may also be capable of transmitting or amplifying other energy not yet detected by science. Yet biophysicists are now implying the physical bodies of human beings are liquid crystals. If we ourselves are crystal-like, you can imagine how the energy of a stone may “flow” through the body. Read on if you are interested in working with stones to help with emotional and physical self-healing.

Welcome back friends!
So have you felt let down, disappointed or surprised, even angry recently? And could it be possibly, due to someone doing something, or something not happening, quite the way you expected? Join the club. I feel myself fall in the Trap over and over again- having a goal, or seeing an outcome that suddenly veers of my course, and takes a turn I wasn't expecting.
As a yogi, I then try to teach myself to "just let it go" or "move on" from the situation. But I still feel empty, not fulfilled, even a little confused. And why? Because I had expectations which weren't met. The result isn't what I planned. Despite my strong, determined efforts, I just couldn't control it and something else happened. And boy, that feels, well out of control.
The question is can I avoid the hurt, the pain, the disappointment, before it happens? Why do I set myself up to fall back in the Trap?
Consider we are at the mercy of the Universe, or God, or Light, Buddha, or whatever you call your Higher Power. What would happen if we placed this desire, this expectation, with this Power, and did eventually release from an expected outcome? Even if a situation unfolds itself and stays awhile, and it doesn't align with your intentions, or desires, or goals, is it possible to sit back and reclaim your power in choosing not to suffer through the pain of not getting what you expected- in not reacting but responding when ready?
Whether you follow Buddhism or not, there is much to learn from what Buddha taught. For example, there are four Noble Truths of Buddhism I have learned which I share with you:
Suffering and dissatisfaction exist in life
Suffering arises from attachment to desires, such as control or set expectations
Suffering ceases when these attachments cease to exist
Freedom from suffering is possible by practicing the Eightfold Path
This liberation from suffering is what many people mean when they use the word “enlightenment."
I have decided to continue to have goals, plans, ideas. But this time I hope to remain in the present moment, taking what comes, and accepting it. I will choose to bathe in my own resilience, stepping aside to get out of my own way.
This quote from one of my favorites, Pema Chödrön, has shown up for me a lot this past month. What I mean by shown up is that I have seen it a few times through social media, and thought of it in conversations with friends. Whenever this happens, I stop and ask myself, "Does this mean something? Does it mean nothing? Does it resonate with me in any way?"
I like to think I am somewhat spiritually aware, a person who strives to ride the evolution of Self on a daily basis (meditation, yoga, eating well, praying, reading multiple self-help sources, stopping to smell the flowers, hugging those I love, walking my dog,- you get the gist). But this time it resonated for me because I can apply it, not just in a nebulous way, but to a specific situation I have in my life. And it didn't just resonate, it boomed, like cannon ball boomed. And for this reason I stopped, meditated on it, paid attention to the words, the way if felt physically and mentally. My mom taught me to do this at a young age and it has always shown me more about myself.
How often do we as people ignore something time and time again, until it shows up in physical ways (sickness, insomnia, depression, worry or worse)?
Take Oprah's wonderful quote - "Whispers are always messages, and if you don’t hear the message, the message turns into a problem. And if you don’t handle the problem, the problem turns into a crisis. And if you don’t handle the crisis, disaster. Your life is speaking to you. What is it saying?” — Oprah Winfrey, May 25, 2011
So I guess my point is, could there be something or someone in your life, which needs your attention? Do you need to face something difficult or change your outlook, in order to preserve your integrity? Most likely we do, but first we need to stop and listen in. And that is hard for most of us. When is the last time that you felt in your gut something was off, but you chose to ignore or put aside or deny, that feeling. And why?? Why do we put off change, even when it is keeping us up at night or making us sick or fueling our anger? How about instead of letting that message turn into crisis, we instead stop, listen in, and go ahead and feel that feeling, the whisper, that makes us squirmy, squeamish, uncomfortable? What is the worse that could happen? Huh. Most likely we will get better, feel better, change, EVOLVE.
Figure out for you what is YOUR meditation to help you do this very action of stopping, sitting, listening to yourself without judgment. It is the least you can do for yourself. And you deserve it.
I am out in Northern California, my native stomping grounds, and taking some time to reboot, let’s say. I get to hang with my parents, be reminded of all the great things here I miss after moving to New England. With this newfound time on my hands, I began thinking about a topic for my March blog and was certainly inspired by the recent deluge of rains and flooding that this area received in the last month. I am an enduring fan of the blooming mustard that engulfs the vineyards, the sweet spring smell floating in the air, the tight buds of California poppies about to shoot forth near my mom’s place. And how does this relate to our jewelry line or you, you may be thinking?
Well, did you know New York Fashion Week just happened? Well good for you. It is hard to stay up on these things and I enjoy bringing some fashion news to your inbox. But I too need to research and discover what are the big trends, so let’s chat about what is out there.
The past season has been dominated by the choker, but the “sautoir" – or long necklace – has made a bold comeback.
Long chains with pendants, energizing stones or mineral slices were all over the runways.
And, I am pleased to say for those of us young in the 90s, that chokers haven’t gone completely away yet. Also not gone away (remember my earlier blog about Fall Trends), statement earrings just like rings, were seen all over the runway in various forms, materials and shapes- the bigger the better.
But here is what I find really interesting, and ties in neatly to the inspirational green Sonoma hills I am a witness to, is the color appropriately called “Greenery,” which is Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2017. (also known as Pantone 15-0343)
We could ruminate as to how they figure out the color of the year (sometimes taking 9 months I’ve read), but instead let’s happily accept this joyful color and reminisce about what the message that color brings, and how we may wear it in jewelry to evoke this message.
As you can see from GH Inspired Designs, we love leaves, trees and other nature- inspired pieces. We want to wear and design pieces that remind us of the beauty and inspiration of Mother Nature. This color green is truly Nature at its best. When we wear it, it connects us back to the messages which Spring joyfully calls out….renew, regenerate, refresh- grow! Every spring we get to begin anew, echoed by the shoots from the ground, the sprouts on the trees, the tight petite buds of new blooms.
In Japan there is something called "shinrin yoku," which translates to "forest bathing.” It is considered preventative health care because you are walking as a moving meditation of sorts, breathing a different kind of clean air, and you feel more in touch with Nature, Mother Earth, Spirit Connection. So similar to Crystal Therapy and other ways to cleanse yourself, it is a wonderful way to reconnect to your personal “Spring.” But if you can’t do that, what can you do? Bring green into your environment. Put in on your body, wear the color. It should make you feel good.
So this spring remember the color called Greenery and let it be a reminder for all that is new, fresh, and hopeful.
The kindest thing you can do is share this with others. You, my friend, are part of our marketing department. Thank you for your sharing your heart.

It’s February and because we are close to Valentine’s Day, Rose Quartz seems to be a wonderful choice to feature this month.
Who doesn’t need more love and especially right now in all the local and global turmoil surrounding us.
Have you ever thought about wearing a crystal not just because of its color but because of the way it makes you feel?
Or perhaps you are tuned into the energies of the crystal you are wearing.
Consider surrounding yourself with love through this gorgeous light pink stone.
Where it’s found: Brazil, Madagascar, South Dakota
Key Words: Love, Gentleness, Compassion, Forgiveness
Chakras: Heart (4th), Throat (5th), Third Eye (6th), Crown (7th)
Emotional: Rose Quartz is a stone of unconditional love. It opens the heart chakra to all forms of love: self-love, family love, platonic love, and romantic love. Rose Quartz has excellent protection energies during pregnancy and childbirth. The elevated energy of quartz gives Rose Quartz a property of enhancing love in virtually any situation. It also brings gentleness, forgiveness, and tolerance. Some believe that rose quartz has calming effects and helps people develop strong friendships.
Physical: Skin, especially burns and blistering from heat; past emotional trauma; healing to the heart, release of worry, fear, anxiety
Rose Quartz is more powerful when it is clearer and deeper colored than opaque. But don’t think its gentle pink fool you- it is one of the most important stones. Rose Quartz is traditionally related to the heart, but is also believed to stimulate the upper chakras, the Throat, Third Eye, and especially Crown Chakras. Once stimulated, the upper three Chakras then opens the heart Chakra (4th), bringing a silky smooth, gentle love to you. Imagine using this stone to clear the upper chakras, then opening your heart chakra and pave the way for jump starting new love, in whatever form you are looking to find.
Meditation with Rose Quartz:
Hold your rose quartz in your hand or place it on your body, preferably on your heart (Malas and necklaces are especially good.) Sit or lie down, quietly breathing.
Imagine the left side of your body as receptive See the left side of your body surrounded with pink light. Then imagine this pink light surround your heart space. Start at the towpSee in your minds eye this area open like petals of a lotus flower. From this area shines an energy that is filled with love, that IS love. See this light expand until your entire being is outlined in a cocoon of loving light. Breathe it in and let it fill your lungs. Exhale out all past emotional trauma which is stagnant and no longer welcome.
Continue to breathe in and out slowly and mindfully, each time breathing in love and peace, breathing out all that does not serve you.
Gently open your eyes and take a moment to acknowledge how you feel. Remain open and curious to self-compassion, a lighter heart, a more joyful outlook.
Affirmation or Mantra: My heart is open to give and receive the energy of love.

Life is too short to wear boring jewelry- plus musings on the presidential inauguration, zodiac sign of Aquarius and how you fit in to the mix.....
As you know, I enjoy making jewelry that helps one to feel inspired, possibly empowered..loved and special. How do I do that? One way is by choosing gemstones and crystals that are in tune with those energies. There is a giant wave of interest and knowledge that has been passed down since ancient times, of forms and vibrations of gemstone and crystal energies.*
I love to educate myself and continue to search how I can translate this information into my jewelry and ultimately, my clients’ self-expression by wearing my designs.
So let's talk about the presidential inauguration on January 20. Americans will undergo a big transition toward the end of the month. There is a lot of community building and at the very least, a larger awareness toward political views and cultural identities. I believe it's a fundamental right for us to speak up, speak out, and get your voice heard.
So, some great stones for this-communication, speaking truth, having a voice- are: Amazonite, Angelite, and Turquoise to name a few. Amazonite in particular is best worn around the neck for this reason, as it physically connects to the throat (5th) chakra….the chakra governing truth in communication. If you want to set personal boundaries, wear it if you are overly concerned with opinions of others, of if you overly judge.
Also less unknown is the Rudraksha seed. They are one of the most popular and traditional materials used for making mala beads. Rudra means “Lord Shiva” and Aksha means “teardrops”, making Rudraksha “Tears of Lord Shiva.” It is said that Lord Shiva went into a deep trance meditation for the well-being of all living creatures of the earth and when he finished and opened his eye tears fell to the earth. These tears were in the form of seeds which grew to trees, later being called the Rudraksha tree. These seeds help in healing the heart center and balancing the chakras, promoting inner peace, as well as granting knowledge, power, and enlightenment.
Speaking of knowledge and enlightenment, meet the next Astrological sign in the zodiac: Aquarius (born January 20-February 18). These people (my husband is one) are considered the Great Awakeners- altruistic, humane people who are determined to make a difference. Aquarians are visionaries, progressive people often thinking about how things can be better. Making the world a better place is a collaborative effort for Aquarians-perfect for an America changing and evolving daily.
Hope on the ride by wearing jewelry with Turquoise (health, peace and inner calm) , Tiger Eye (strength/balancing extremes), and definitely Quartz Crystal. Quartz Crystal (good for intention/focus/spiritual development) is powerful. It can stimulate the positive and brings clarity on all levels. Traditionally this crystal harmonizes and aligns human energies (thought, consciousness and emotions) with the energy of the universe, thus creating outward harmony. It dispels confusion and will bring the wearer mental clarity and heightened spiritual awareness.
Whatever happens toward the end of January consider yourself in the Know. Enjoy!

Find spiritual growth despite daily life challenges….How do you know if you are spiritually growing?
“If your enlightenment is egocentric and self-delusional, then life will soon give you a challenge that will bring out your unconsciousness in whatever form—as fear, anger, defensiveness, judgment, depression, and so on.” Eckhart Tolle
So I ask the question: if you face the challenge, face your unconscious- feel, anger, fear, etc….does this make you more enlightened?
You may be like me: a fairly spiritually educated person, who goes to yoga, eats well (with occasional sugary treats of course), reads inspirational quotes and takes signs from the Universe for face value….looking to find the positive in the negative whenever I can- the Silver Lining.
But what happens when you find yourself confronted with a situation or challenge out of your control? (Think the election results, stories in the media)— confronted with a lesson you know is in front of you, in which you just can’t see that Silver Lining?
How do you know if you are spiritually growing despite these challenges?
One way is that you are open to a “lesson” from the situation.
I believe in my human mind that one way to get closer to enlightened spirit is to welcome and be open to let the Good in. You may not see the Lesson per say; it may not be right in front of you, ready to grasp. We mostly don’t have perfect days that are without difficulties. But feel comforted that you are spiritually progressing simply because you look for positivity in these difficulties. Instead of focusing on the bad, you reach for the good, whether it shows up then or later.
For a person like you, who is on the spiritual path, know that it is YOUR spiritual path, and complications are essential for your growth. Sometimes the risk is behind the light and you must step into the shadow to see it- otherwise you may risk the Risk in not staying open and positive….and that doesn’t feel spiritual. It feels more like the ego is speaking - speaking out in anger, fear, sadness, judgment, you fill the word in.
So I say let’s help each other to look to inspiration from the quiet gaps in-between our thoughts, in the moments where we can get solo and sit with the silence, during meditation, before sleep, whenever you can. Confront the situation by allowing yourself to feel, on a human level first and foremost. Step into your awareness and be open to all that awaits inside….be with the fear, the unknown, the difficult- that’s what we can do, that’s where the spiritual growth comes from, that’s where a small slice of enlightenment awaits you.
Hello and welcome to my first blog in October. Want to know what's in jewelry wise whether for you or for gifts? It's good to be in the Know. I have done the research so you don't have to, to keep up with latest trends from off the runways.
First, I need to mention chokers. The 90's are back in many ways Fashion, and so are chokers in all widths, especially ultra-feminine chokers. Chokers can be layered with longer necklaces too, since the layered look has translated from the summer trends and continues to be a main style. So whether you wear a choker alone or layer it, sing Pearl Jam and take a trip down memory lane, recalling what you were doing in the 90's. (or maybe not!)
Second, Earth Elements are super big. We are talking Geodes and large chunky stones, as well as raw, unfinished stones for that added bit of color. Wear as a statement piece as shown here or in large groupings or multi stones... the rawer the better.
Girls with Pearls are all the rage. Earrings, necklaces, you name it, pearls are a thing. Pearls have always finished off a look, selling elegant maturity and fueling our nostalgia for the less frenetic time of the 1950's. But when it comes to what's trending in the 21st century, images of women in poodle skirts and housewives in heels and pearls strands are thrown to the wind. What lands is a hip, chic look that all ages can embrace.
The fourth trend to share is….big rings. One or layered, the bigger the ring the better. So glad I have some new rings on hand to show you (no pun intended) and hope this trend continues because who doesn’t love a great ring?
These trends and more can be seen on my website, www.gillianhurrie.com. Be sure to look on the New Tab to see the most recent pieces added.
Namaste and talk soon,
PERIDOT-Magnesium Iron Silicate Mineral
Key Words: Prosperity, Well-Being, Positivity, Health
Chakras: Solar Plexus (3rd), Heart (4th)
Welcome to my blog and this month's addition- the gorgeous, bright green Peridot.
Emotional: Since ancient times, Peridot has been a symbol of the sun. This August birthstone promotes independence, prosperity, and personal growth. Its healing energies bring an inner sense of warmth and well-being. Think the word Increase; increasing health, joy and well-being, financial success. Peridot is full of positivity, spiritual and financial abundance. Use it also to remove obstacles you may have to receive, release anger and fear promote forgiveness and generally rejuvenate your energy (prana).
Physical: Good for all heart related imbalances, recovery of tobacco addiction, cleansing for blood and better oxygenation. Peridot aids healing in the area of the liver as it stimulates metabolism and helps to detox.
PERIDOT MEDITATION: Sit in a comfortable position with your spine long and shoulders back, eyes closed. Be quiet and focus on slowing your breath. After a few minutes open your eyes and look down on the Peridot stone you may be holding in your hand. Notice the bright green…..slow your breathing down by breathing in through your nose for four counts, hold for a count, then exhale through your nose for four counts. Hold for a count, and repeat for approximately three to four full breath cycles.
Breathe in. Imagine your heart area filling with health, happiness. Imagine it as a warmth that surrounds your heart, your lungs, and finally your entire torso. Use your imagination to feel yourself rise up above so you can look down at yourself objectively, and see the brilliant light that is you. Notice there is no room for jealously, anger, fear, resentment, sadness.
As you remain perched above yourself, envision abundance in any form you are wanting- financial prosperity, love, good health- flowing your way. Notice how you embrace these riches and your light gets brighter and brighter. You are deserving of all good things. The darkness abates. The sadness is gone. There is only light and love and utter joy. As you focus back on your physical body, remind yourself that you are independent and strong. You understand that the past is long gone, and you have everything you need to thrive. You are motivated. You are active. You are joyful.
Thanks for reading. You can see a few Peridot jewelry pieces I have here.
Namaste and Be Well,
Ever since I can remember I have worn and loved jewelry. I have pictures of myself at four dripping in my mother’s long beads and clip on earrings. Then while making jewelry as an adult, I began to wonder about the beautiful beads I was using… stones and crystals found in the earth- the colors, the swirls- the weight, characteristics. For years I have remained curious and open to this concept and do believe in potential in wearing and using certain stones and crystals for added health benefits. But just like astrology, I take it as another tool in my toolbox, not someone to depend on entirely for major decision making, but to enhance my sense of well-being and with the world and nature which surround me. I hope my blogs may educate you and peak your interest, and if nothing else, inspire you, to pick stones which call to you. and to wear more of the jewelry you love.
