Is There Meaning Behind Silver?

You may have noticed an increasing trend of people turning toward “Health and Wellness” jewelry which is marketed as spiritual, healing, with meaning or purpose. You see people wearing layers of beaded bracelets, stone pendants necklaces, someone else advocating for you to place a particular crystal under your pillow for better sleep.  But what does that really mean and will it benefit you?

This blog will respond to that and a whole lot more! For my first blog ever, I decided to talk about something near and dear to my heart: sterling silver. I adore silver, more than gold, and have worn it in multiple layers my whole life.  I wear my crown necklace every day, rings, bracelets- they all make up my image.  But I have wondered: can it introduce a healing effect to my body and mind?

The phrase 'bringing some metal more into your life' can be interpreted in many different ways, each having the potential of bringing about a desired healing effect. It does not mean the metal - it means the archetype the metal has come to represent. It may also mean a color, a food, a crystal or an animal. Once one's metallic deficiency or excess has been identified, then one can explore different ways of bringing that metal into your life and adjusting and exploring the right intensity or dosage of one's intimacy with it. Pretty interesting!

There are seven metals in the ancient alchemical system of healing; Silver is one associated with the moon, the night goddess.  What I found extremely interesting is that most people have a small amount of silver in their bodies, due to the fact that silver can be found in most drinking water supplies and of course, is in the earth’s crust.

The amount varies from person to person. Because foods can also be classified within the seven metals, one may change one's diet so as to reduce foods that are harmful and eat more helpful foods. This applies generally, not just to considerations of which foods might be rich in which metals. Food corresponding to silver (or moon-related): melons, cucumbers, yogurt, cheese, milk.

Silver is the most reflective metal on earth- metaphysically it is believed to mirror the soul, strengthen the connection between astral and physical bodies, and enhance intuitive and psychic energies.  Just as the Moon reflects the Sun’s light, Silver reflects negativity off the wearer. Yet silver combined with stones will retain and enhance the stones’ qualities.  Also meant in correspondence to the body, you can relate it to brain and fluids.

Silver has a gentle, soothing effect….and therefore relates to emotions and nature, hormones and fertility.  Silver is the sensitive metal of the emotions and the more refined senses. People who are more “silver types” are clairvoyant or perhaps oversensitive; they like to be treated kindly and will not tolerate any roughness. The lunar silver type is the most caring and compassionate of all the metals; they like people and want to mother them and care for them. In this sense they are the archetypal feminine type. People with excess silver may find life rather painful and constantly on an emotional roller-coaster, as they react to negative and positive things so intensely and with powerful emotion. They need to develop some lead or iron to harden and protect them from the harsh realities of life, by reducing the intensity of their emotional response. Mothers and care givers, nurses, and teachers are related to the Silver type of person.

Silver can also be used to enhance your psychic abilities, as it is a psychic-influencing metal. It is mystically considered to improve speech and bring eloquence. It is also believed to attract, enhance and store the energies of gemstones, as well as draw out negative energies.

Do you like wearing silver? Are you drawn to it? Looking forward to your comments!

Namaste,

    About the Author

    -
Ever since I can remember I have worn and loved jewelry. I have pictures of myself at four years old, dripping in my mother’s long beads and clip on earrings.

Then while making jewelry as an adult, I began to wonder about the beautiful beads I was using - stones and crystals found in the earth - the colors, the swirls, the weight, and characteristics.

For years I have remained curious and open to this concept and do believe in the potential in wearing and using certain stones and crystals for added health benefits. But just like astrology, I take it as another tool in my toolbox, not someone to depend on entirely for major decision making, but to enhance my sense of well-being and with the world and nature which surround me.

I hope my blog posts peak your interest and shed light on a new topic - and if nothing else, inspire you
to pick stones which call to you and to wear more of the jewelry you love.
