What Do Summer, the gem Rainbow Moonstone, and July's Full Moon Have in Common?

Happy Summer!!! Do you hear all those exclamation marks? I love July. It means my birthday is around the corner (the 24th) and summer is in full swing. I love a warm day with a cool light breeze and the slow paced feeling that accompanies it.
Our company is busy this time of year too, as stores scramble to fill in for the higher traffic and sales, and our own team is out and about at various outdoor shows. (See full schedule here).

So tonight is the full moon for this month. This moon gives me pause, as always. I am one to feel the moon on a visceral level…that instinctive, internal feeling that I should stop and take it all in, that things are shifting and making room for new or perhaps, change.

Some are calling it a “Blessing Moon.” For me it is a time take in a slower pace, to sift through what is working and what isn’t, on a daily level as I go about my work and play. What do I want to learn more about, say in my yoga practice? It is a great time, in the full moon, to start to zero in and clearly define where I am going and what I have learned along the way to support and sustain me.
This is a phrase I use a lot while teaching yoga: Support and Sustain. It is good to remember, especially while staying in a pose, to work with your breath so that it slows down, remains even and steady, rather than shallow, erratic, and hard to maintain.

Once we establish a yoga practice where we know our bodies and can remain in a pose and breathe fully and deeply, we then can shift, start to move deeper in perhaps on an energetic, spiritual level. We can choose to go beyond familiar ground, out of our “comfort zones,” past our Edge, to find the blessing beyond the comfort zone. What can await us doesn’t have to be scary but welcoming, beckoning, and surprising.

In relation to the full moon July 9, I want to discuss the ethereal beauty of the gemstone know as Rainbow Moonstone. It is one of my all time favorite stones and is for many I meet. High quality rainbow moonstone has a beautiful sheen, caused by light diffraction. While there are other shades (peach, white, grey), I prefer this one which is generally associated with the feminine as it can help one to tap into the intuitive part of the mind. It is a talisman to enter inward and decipher how to navigate new stages of growth. How perfect for a period near and on a full moon, to then nurture yourself with ease and patience, rather than hurrying for the next stage of life.

This summer, around a full moon, and really, anytime you want to slow down and take "it" all in mindfully, find a beach or body of water outside in the warmth, and slow down physically. Sit. Look around at the beauty around you. Then maybe meditate to look within to what works and doesn’t work in your life to aid you in becoming your better Self. Treat yourself with gentle, loving energy. Empower and align yourself with the Goddess within.

    About the Author

    -
Ever since I can remember I have worn and loved jewelry. I have pictures of myself at four years old, dripping in my mother’s long beads and clip on earrings.

Then while making jewelry as an adult, I began to wonder about the beautiful beads I was using - stones and crystals found in the earth - the colors, the swirls, the weight, and characteristics.

For years I have remained curious and open to this concept and do believe in the potential in wearing and using certain stones and crystals for added health benefits. But just like astrology, I take it as another tool in my toolbox, not someone to depend on entirely for major decision making, but to enhance my sense of well-being and with the world and nature which surround me.

I hope my blog posts peak your interest and shed light on a new topic - and if nothing else, inspire you
to pick stones which call to you and to wear more of the jewelry you love.
